Welcome to Family and Consumer Science

E-mail: melissa.bradshaw@n-ccs.org

I am a graduate of Appalachian State University with a major in Family and Consumer Science and began teaching at Newton-Conover High School in the fall of 2013.  As a FACS teacher I teach courses which focus on life management skills in the areas of personal and family living; wellness, nutrition, and foods; financial management; living environments; appropriate child development practices; fashion and clothing; and job readiness. Emphasis is placed on students applying these skills during their teen years.

My particular area of expertise is Apparel Production and Textiles. Apparel courses introduce students to industry standards of design, textiles and apparel engineering. Students will create their own designs, learn appropriate textile use and produce an apparel product.

Second level courses expand on these skills and gain a deeper understanding of apparel engineering and the global needs of an ever changing Apparel and Textile industry focusing on textile design, textile science, product construction, global manufacture and marketing.
