Longleaf Commitment Grant Program for Seniors:

Governor Cooper, in partnership with the NC Community College System and the State Education Assistance Authority, has announced the creation of the Longleaf Commitment Grant program.

This grant program will allow eligible 2021 high school graduates the opportunity to apply for a grant that covers tuition and fees at any of North Carolina's 58 community colleges for up to two years.

Eligibility requirements from 2021 high schools seniors:

*Graduate from a North Carolina high school in 2021
*Be a North Carolina resident for tuition purposes
*Be a first-time college student (Career & College Promise (CCP) and Early/Middle College High School students are eligible)
*Enroll in a curriculum program during the 2021-22 academic year
*Enroll in at least 6 credit hours per semester
*Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for 2021-22
*Have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from $0 - $15,000. (“EFC” is based upon student’s FAFSA determination)
*Renew FAFSA for the 2022-23 academic year and meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements of the college

The three steps high school graduates need to complete to get started:

1. 3. Lastly, applicants must complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), here https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa

Graduation Updates

Great news! You can have as many guests at graduation as you would like. No limit on number of friends or family to celebrate your graduation on May 28th. WOO HOO!! A new order just came out yesterday so you will not be receiving tickets to enter the stadium!

PLEASE REMEMBER! Graduating Seniors will still have MANDATORY practice at 10:30 a.m. on May 28th. Breakfast will be provided and each senior will be receiving a senior basket; compliments of parents and community support throughout the area! Please dress casual (shorts, t-shirt) for practice. You will receive tickets for guests in the case the ceremony is moved indoors due to weather. Also, if you do not attend practice Friday morning, you will not be allowed to participate in the ceremony.


Graduates will need to arrive back at the field house NO LATER than 6:15 p.m. to line up for graduation which will begin promptly at 7 p.m. Please wear dress attire; NO JEANS, NO TENNIS SHOES, black tennis shoes are fine. You will need your cap, gown, tassel!!! We WILL NOT HAVE EXTRA so do not forget your graduation attire. Call Jostens if you do not have what you need: 828-681-1712. Make sure you have turned in all technology, books, etc. and do not have any fees. Please check with Ms. Kisser in the main office. Fees are due by May 25th (CASH ONLY)!

Vaccinations for Next school year

This is a reminder to the parents/guardians of all rising seniors; students are required by the state of North Carolina to have the 2nd dose of the meningitis/meningococcal vaccine if they have not previously received this. They received their first dose in 7th grade. This is required even if you are doing all virtual learning. We encourage you to call Catawba County Public Health or your child’s doctor today, to make an appointment to get these vaccines. Please contact your school nurse with questions or concerns.

Important Weekly Information 5/23

Beginning tomorrow, May 24th, students who are enrolled in E.O.C. (Math 1, Math 3, Biology) and C.T.E. courses will be taking their exams by period. First period will be on Monday, May 24th. Tuesday, May 25th will be second period exams. Wednesday, May 26th will be third period exams. Thursday, May 27th will be fourth period exams. Students will need to report to school each morning before 7:40am with their charged Chromebook, cord, and case. Students will be dismissed from testing sessions at 1:00pm each day. Students WILL NOT be allowed to check-out or leave before ALL testing sessions are completed. Buses will run, or be sure to have someone here to pick your child up at 1:00pm. Permission slips for early dismissal this week, May 24th through May 27th, were sent home with students. Please be sure to complete these, sign, and have your student return to school before testing begins on their testing day, May 24th through May 27th. Makeups will be given as needed throughout the week, or by special circumstances on June 2nd and June 9th. Students, be prepared to leave your Chromebook, case, and cord at N-CHS on your last day of exams.
Please also notice Summer School information that has been posted to our school Facebook and webpage, as well as sent home with students. Summer School applications are available for pick-up in the main office. Any student wishing to attend Summer School must fill out and return an application to Mr. Davis in the main office no later than Friday, May 28th. Anyone not filling out an application will not be considered. You are encouraged to contact Mr. Davis with any questions concerning Summer School.

Yearbook Update

As you know, this has been an unprecedented year and it has been quite a challenge for our yearbook staff. Since many activities and sports events did not happen until the spring, we opted for a late submission date.

Weekly Updates 5/16

The End of Course schedule has been posted on our school Facebook page, school webpage, and was sent home with students. Please make note of this schedule with dates your student must attend. Thursday, May 20th will be a NORMAL school day for students. Only certain students enrolled in an English 2 class will be testing on May 20th. These students have been notified. All other students will attend class as normal on May 20th. Beginning Monday, May 24th, ONLY students testing will attend school the day of their test.

Please also notice Summer School information that has been posted to our school Facebook and webpage, as well as sent home with students. Summer School applications are now available for pick-up in the main office.
