My name is Julia Styers and I teach Math 2 and Math 3 at N-CHS. This is my 36th year in education - all with Newton-Conover City Schools. I began teaching math at N-CHS in 1983 and after teaching for 20 years, served in various positions within the district including serving as the Prinicipal of South Newton Elementary for 5 years. I retired from the district office in 2017 where I served as CTE/High School Director for 2 years. In 2018, I returned to the same classroom I had left 15 years prior and could not be more excited to be sharing my love for teaching and mathematics with your children. My love for education is in the classroom! My husband, Mike and I have 5 children and 6 grandchildren. I enjoy spending time with family, camping, and being outdoors. I look forward to teaching your child this semester.
My tutorial times for hybrid students are Monday - Thursday 7:00 a.m. until 7:30 a.m. and for remote students - Friday 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. I strive to assist students as necessary via email as quickly as possible.
Since I am only at N-CHS for two periods each day, the most convenient and fastest way to contact me is via email: firstname.lastname@example.org
. If you prefer to speak by phone, please contact the school office and leave me a voice mail.
I will be using Canvas as the learning platform for my classes. All notes, videos, assignments, and class information may be accessed through the Canvas homepage. Students will have work assigned every day, and will be expected to interact every day. The Remote Learning Attendance Form is linked in Canvas just below the daily assignment. This form will help me to keep up with attendance as well as provide communication when a student needs additional assistance with an assignment. I have not set up the gradebook section of Canvas yet, so students should keep up with grades through PowerSchool. Grades are updated regularly in PowerSchool. Parents can log in and observe their student's progress in both Canvas and PowerSchool. Please contact me if you need assistance with that.
