Good afternoon Discovery family and Happy New Year. I hope that everyone has had a wonderful break and is looking forward to a wonderful 2nd semester. Below are the announcements for the upcoming week. We are beginning our recruiting trips tomorrow at our local middle schools. If you know of any rising 9th grader, who may be interested in attending DHS, please encourage them to apply. When students enter the lower building tomorrow, they will notice the window project that we have going on to improve the safety and energy conservation of our building. We are excited about this. There will be times when we will need to relocate some classes during this project but the overall distubance should be minimal. It will be very similar to the roofing project we had a few years ago. Beginning tomorrow, we will have only first breakfast which will be 7:10-7:40. If any student is wanting a breakfast they will need to make sure to grab it during this time. We will no longer have a 2nd Chance breakfast. Therefore, our daily schedule has changed slightly. Please see the following link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Y38XR2bbYdl3iMXi97_lcfYZ0S7Ozc-jr_XbRxBsnH4/edit?usp=sharing. For this upcoming week, we will follow the schedule listed below Advisory - Monday-Wednesday Family - Thursday Community - Friday Any student with a NCVPS, CVCC online class, or a Learning Lab should report to the media center at the designated time for this class on Monday. There will be no school on Monday January 15th in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday. I hope that everyone has a wonderful week. Take care. #DiscoverU

3rd place trophy for the Quill at state
Happy Sunday afternoon Discovery family. I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend. Below are the announcements for this week. A huge shout out to our Quill Team of June, Nolan, Judah, and Maggie for finishing 3rd at the state competition yesterday!! We will have our Beta Club Induction Ceremony tomorrow evening at 6:00. Students, who will be participating, should have received information regarding it from Ms. Kellogg. Students, it is extremely important for you to check your emails on a daily basis. For the first semester testing plan, students should refer to the email I sent you on Friday. The following is our Excessive Absence Policy: Excessive Absences The first step to ensure student academic success is for students to be in school each and every day. Therefore, Discovery High School will abide by the following attendance policy. Students with more than 9 absences (excused or unexcused) per semester will fail that/those course(s) for the semester. Three unexcused tardies will count as an absence. Students have to be present for one hour for semester classes and 30 minutes for year long classes to be counted present daily. Students, who have extenuating circumstances, can appeal this by completing the Attendance Appeal Form which can be found in the front office. Also, please remember that excessive absences can be grounds for dismissal from Discovery High School. Students, who have reached the 9 absence threshold (including unexcused tardies), need to pick up an Attendance Appeal Form in the office this week. The following is a link for the Character Awards for this week: https://drive.google.com/file/d/16ywenYl4pmVdxT4Th0JXwgeg4kAJcfGW/view?usp=sharing As we are coming to the end of the first semester, please be sure to check with your student about how he/she is doing in each of his/her classes. As always, please reach out if there is anything we can do for you. Take care. #DiscoverU
