Please join me in congratulating Jacob Sigmon on his new position as AP of N-CMS! We are excited to have him serve N-CMS and N-CCS in this role.
Mr. Sigmon is in his tenth year of teaching, six years in the Newton-Conover school system. Jacob grew up in the Red Devil family, even managing to help Newton-Conover High School bring home the State Championship in football in 2008. After earning his B.S. in Elementary Education from Western Carolina University (Go Cats!), he decided to move back to the area with his wife. There, he earned his M.A. in Educational Leadership from Gardner Webb University while also working full-time. Since being at Newton-Conover Middle, he’s been a math, science, and physical education teacher while also coaching basketball, baseball, and even football over at Newton-Conover High School. Outside of school, Mr. Sigmon enjoys watching the North Carolina Tarheels and spending time with his wife and three dogs.

Good evening, Red Devily family! Here are your announcements for the week of September 11-15, 2023.
Tardies will begin counting this week. Students must be in their HR class by 7:40 a.m. Parents of car riders, please ensure you have your child dropped off at school early enough to give them time to get to their HR class on time.

We have covered this extensively with students over the first two weeks of school. Students with dress code violations will be asked to call home or change clothes. Please ensure you know what your child is permitted to wear to school. Please contact the main office if you have any questions.
This week, students will take their BOY i-Ready assessments. i-Ready assesses where students are at with Math and ELA skills. These assessments do not measure state standards. Teachers use this data to identify skill gaps, which helps them plan instructional support. Please encourage your child to get plenty of rest, eat a good breakfast, and take the assessments seriously.

Good evening Red Devil Family!
We had an excellent first day of school at N-CMS!
Parents, please call the main office tomorrow if you still experiencing any bus transportation issues. For the most part, buses went very smooth today.
Morning and afternoon car riders did a great job! All car riders were picked up within 17 minutes once the dismissal process started. That is incredible for the first day of school. Thank you parents for your assistance with the process.
We hope your child enjoyed the first day of school.
Have a great evening and we will see everyone back in the morning!

Good evening, Red Devil family! Here are your announcements for the week of August 28-September 1.
Monday, August 28, is the first day of school! We are excited to have students back in the building and look forward to another amazing year!
Parents, please note that students may enter the building at 7:10 a.m. If your child is a car rider, please do not drop your students off before 7:10 a.m., as there will be no supervision, which is a safety concern. School starts at 7:40 a.m. Please be mindful that County Home Rd. will be congested the first couple of days of school. The car rider line will get faster once students and parents learn the drop-off and pickup routines.
If your child is riding a bus, please be at your assigned stop 10-15 minutes early. Please be patient with drivers, as it typically takes about a week to smooth out bus routes. Expect students to be a little later getting home in the afternoons the first week of school. We will have staff go around on Monday to each classroom to help ensure that students know their PM bus number and answer any questions. If your child lives close to school and is a “walker,” they must have a walker pass on file. These will be distributed on the first day of school to those students who need it. Students without proper “walker” paperwork on file cannot walk home.
Please note the following safety procedure: a parent/guardian must sign their child in at the front office if a student arrives late, after 7:40 a.m., to school. The front office will document student tardies, and excessive tardies will result in an office referral. We will begin documenting tardies on September 11, 2023, and they will reset after every quarter. Parents, please note students must be in their HR class by 7:40 a.m. to not be counted as tardy. Please ensure your child arrives at school with enough time to walk to class by 7:40 a.m.
Free and Reduced lunch applications are now live. Parents, please fill out an application even if your child may not eat meals from the cafeteria. Applications are tied to funding, and we would like to have as many dollars as possible to support our students. Parents, please note that students will accrue cafeteria charges this year for lunch. Fill out the Free and Reduced Lunch Application to potentially avoid these charges. Breakfast will be served and free to all students this school year.
There will be no school for students and staff on Monday, September 4, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.
In athletic news, Volleyball and Cross Country tryouts will be held directly after school on August 29th and 30th. Soccer tryouts will be held from August 28th to August 31st. Students must have a current physical on file to try out and must meet eligibility requirements.
We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow for the first day of school.

“Due to the potential threat of high heat index, there will be no soccer workouts on Friday, August 25th.”

Good evening evening, 6th grade parents. We want to thank those who attended our Open House event today. We are excited for the start of the school year and hope you are too!
A couple of quick announcements regarding the 6th-grade Kick Start event tomorrow morning. Students can enter the building starting at 8 a.m. Students should be dropped off at the front of the building and enter through the front doors. Staff will direct students up to the 6th-grade floor. Parents, you will not need to walk your student to class.
Parents staying for the Optional Parent Meeting at 8:15 a.m. will report to the Auditorium. Staff will direct you to the location.
Students must be picked up at 11 a.m. in the car rider line. Do not park your car and come into the building. Students will go outside and get in their vehicle. The car rider line will start in the front of the building and snake through the parking lot.
Have a great night!

Open House and Kona Ice! The weather is HOT this week and what better way than to cool off while supporting your school than Kona Ice. Kona Ice will be selling icees tomorrow at Open House starting at 2:45 pm with a portion of all sales going to NCMS. As a reminder, 6th grade Open House is Wednesday, 8/23, at 3:00. 7th grade Open House is at 4:00. 8th grade Open House is 5:00. We look forward to meeting our new Red Devils and welcoming back our returning ones!

Join me in welcoming Ms. Chrisie Weber to the NCMS family! We are excited to bring back the Health Sciences courses to NCMS again with Ms. Weber as the new teacher. She comes to us with experience in the health and education fields. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from Colby Sawyer College and a Master's in Education from East Carolina University. She is originally from Massachusetts, but has lived in the Newton/Conover area for 26 years with her 2 dogs, Bear and Bandit, and a cat named Peeps.

Good evening Red Devil Family! Here are some updates for the 2023-2024 school year. Open House is scheduled for August 23. 6th Grade Open House begins at 3 p.m., 7th Grade at 4 p.m., and 8th grade at 5 p.m. Open House will conclude at 6 p.m.
On August 24, we will have our 6th Grade KickStart event. This is for all rising 6th graders. Students will need to be dropped off by 8 a.m. and will need to be picked up at 11 a.m. This is an excellent opportunity for your student to meet their classmates, familiarize themselves with their daily schedule, and prepare for the first day of school. There will be a 30-minute optional meeting for 6th-grade parents starting at 8:15 a.m. in the auditorium.
Supply lists are posted on our website and school Facebook page. This is a reminder that all 7th graders are required to meet the state immunization guidelines. Please see our website and Facebook page for more information.
Student Enrollment via InfoSnap is still open. Parents, please go in and register your child for school. This must be completed prior to August 18 to ensure your child has a schedule for Open House and before students will receive a Chromebook device for the school year. Please contact Tiffany Coffey, Data Manager at NCMS, if you have any questions. 828-464-4221.
Have a great evening.
