Dear Red Devil Family. It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that Jeff Brotherton, CTE teacher at NCMS, passed away late Saturday into Sunday morning.  Mr. Brotherton was a wonderful teacher, father, husband, and human being. He often filled in to be a substitute bus driver, helped coach football, and would do anything and everything to help our school community. He was a proud member of our Red Devil family. Our condolences go out to his family and anyone impacted by his passing.  Experiencing loss at any age is tough to navigate, and we at NCMS understand that our middle school students may experience a range of emotions over the next few days as they process this news. We will have counselors available tomorrow to speak with students needing comfort or grief support. Should your child need to talk with someone, please encourage them to communicate this need to their teachers. While dealing with loss is never easy, we want to support our students the best that we can.  If there is anything we can do for your student as we navigate the road ahead, please reach out and contact the school. That is all for this announcement. Our regular weekly update call will go out at 5 pm today.

This week’s “Da Bomb” recipient chosen by Mrs. Witmore is Mrs. Amy Jackson. (EC Teacher) My choice for ‘Da Bomb’ award is Amy Jackson. Mrs. Jackson has done an amazing job jumping into a new grade level this year, and she is an amazing team player who is willing to help in any way. She is always willing to help our kids, both in the classroom and on Zoom. She truly wants them to succeed and has their best interests in mind. We are lucky to have Mrs. Jackson in 8th grade, and I’m lucky to be able to share my classroom with her! For these reasons, I have selected Mrs. Jackson as this week’s “Da Bomb!” Thank you, and Congratulations, Mrs. Jackson, You Are “Da BOMB!”

Good evening Red Devil Family and Happy New Year! We hope that everyone had a great holiday break.  The school year will resume on January 9th, and this is also the start of quarter 3. Quarter 2 report cards will go home this week on Tuesday. In addition to the report card, students will bring home their 1st round of NC Check-In results. Students will have the opportunity to learn about what each school offers and how to apply. At this time, the respective schools do not have a parent meeting scheduled. If and when that is scheduled, we will share this information with everyone.  There will be a BETA Club meeting on Wednesday, January 11th, at 7:15 am. BETA club members will need to make transportation arrangements to be at school. In athletic news,  Basketball will be at home on Tuesday to take on Maiden Middle School while wrestling is away. Now that all the gifts have hopefully been unwrapped...we would love to share a few secret projects that our students have been working on in the month of December. Students in Ms. Jolly's classes earned "money" in order to "buy" presents for their family members. They enjoyed shopping and wrapping gifts. These gifts and wrapping accessories were donated graciously by the Hickory Elks Lodge, Community Outreach Coordinator, Heather Bain, N-CCS central office staff, and NCMS staff. #groundedandgrowing
