Mrs. Washington's students are studying different countries and their holiday traditions. Mr. Saverino, our Visiting International Faculty member, presented information about his home country of Argentina. We appreciate him very much!





Good evening Red Devil Family! Here are your announcements for the week of December 12-16, 2022.
Students will take their iReady diagnostic test this Tuesday and Wednesday. These test help identify what skills students need support with.
Students will turn in their Chromebooks before the Christmas break. The collection date is December 21st.
NCMS will host a parent-teacher conference day on January 6th for students in danger of failing this year; however, if you would like to schedule a meeting regardless of your child’s academic status, please contact their homeroom teacher.
On December 16 at 6:00 PM, the 6th-grade theatre classes will have a little production titled "Holidays Gone Wrong.” It is a collection of eight stories that Ms. Isaac has written. It is free to come and watch, but the theatre class will take donations. Students participating in the show are allowed to stay after school on the day of the performance or go home and come back by 5:00 PM. Please contact Ms. Isaac for more information.
Yearbooks are now on sale for $35 until February 17th. Please purchase your yearbook now to ensure you have one at the end of the school year. A limited number will be for sale after February 20th. 8th-grade Ads are now available to be purchased. Parents, if you would like to add a special message for your child to go into the yearbook, now is the time to take care of this.

On Monday, December 12, the wrestling team will be away at McDowell. On Tuesday, December 13, the wrestling team will be home to take on Grandview while the basketball team will be away. On Thursday, December 15, the wrestling team will be away at Northview, while basketball will be at home.

Christmas in the Park is back!
Join us for the 31st Annual Christmas in the Park on Tuesday, December 6th beginning at 6pm. Christmas in the Park will feature caroling performances by Newton-Conover Middle School Chorus, Concordia Christian Day School, and the Hickory High School Chorus! After the lighting of the Christmas Tree, expect a visit from Santa Claus! Conover Fire Department will be there serving hot chocolate to keep you warm.
We can’t wait to kick off the Holiday Season with the return of this Conover Christmas Classic Celebration kicks off at 6pm. Parking will be limited so plan ahead and carpool!

Our chorus will hold a concert on Monday at 2:00 pm and 6:30 pm. Our middle school band will have a winter concert on December 8. 6th grade will be at 6:30, 7th grade at 7:15, and 8th grade at 8.
Beta Club Members will meet on Wednesday, December 7th, at 7:15 am in the media center. Please arrange to be at school by 7:10.
The district-wide spelling bee will occur this Friday at NCMS starting at 8 am.

NCHS Annual Community Christmas Lunch will be held for all those in need of a hot meal. The event will be at Calvary Baptist Church's Fellowship Hall in downtown Newton on Sat., Dec. 10th from 11 am - 1 pm. Santa will be on hand to hand out presents to children 12 and under. Take out plates will be available as well.

NC Check-ins will be given to students in grades 6 - 8 tomorrow for Reading. Please ensure your child comes to school with a charged Chromebook and a good night's sleep. Breakfast is free at school, as always.

Mrs. Hudson's 6th grade math classes visited a "mock" market. While in the market, students calculated the unit rate for each sales price. Then they compared the unit price to the individual price. #groundedandgrowing





Good evening Red Devil Family! Here are your announcements for the week of November 28 through December 2, 2022.
We hope that everyone had a wonderful break. We are 3 ½ weeks away from the end of the second quarter. Progress reports went home right before the break. Students have until December 2 to make up any missing assignments. We encourage parents to reach out to their child’s teachers if they have questions about their performance thus far.
Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, all students will take the Reading and Math NC Check-In benchmark assessment. On Thursday, 8th grade will take the Science benchmark. These exams are given to determine students' understanding of current grade-level standards and help guide teachers’ instruction. We need students to get plenty of rest, eat a good breakfast, and come in ready to do their best.
This is a reminder that all students eat breakfast for free this year.
Our middle school band will have a winter concert on December 8. 6th grade will be at 6:30, 7th grade at 7:15, and 8th grade at 8.
In athletic news, our winter sports season starts this Tuesday. Our girl's and boys’ basketball teams will be at home on Tuesday to take on Arndt Middle School School. Both wrestling and basketball teams will take on Maiden Middle School on Thursday. Wrestling will be in action at home, and basketball will play away. The price of admission to all games is $5, and games start at 4 pm.
